In this installment of our Behind the Scenes, please meet graphic designer Catherine Cates. Catt joined Black Rabbit in February 2017, and immediately joined in on our hi jinx. Here's a short interview with Catt.

Q: Tell me a little bit about yourself.
A: I love drawing, being outside, having intense video game competitions with my fiancé, and playing with my crazy cat and dog.

Q: What was your favorite thing about school as a kid?
A: Art class! I loved any chance to make art. Playing outside wasn't bad either!

Q: What do you do at Black Rabbit Books?
A: I get to design some of our books and I illustrate the Silly Sketcher drawing series. [Editor's note: the Silly Sketcher books are in our Hi Jinx imprint. You should go look at them. They are GREAT!]

Q: What inspires you to make children's books?
A: Being a librarian's daughter, you would think I would have been an excellent reader as a child. The truth is, I loved books but I had a very hard time comprehending the text. The only time I'd truly enjoy a book was when my mom would, quite theatrically, read one to me. Of course, she wouldn't be able to do that for me always. It took till about 6th grade for reading to really click, but it was thanks to finding the right book that made me want to keep trying. It's an exciting prospect to have the opportunity and chance to make that book for someone.
