In this installment of Behind the Scenes, meet Grant Gould. Grant started with BRB in June 2016 with big dreams and a sense of humor that never quits. He and editor Marysa quickly discovered a deeply shared admiration for Nicolas Cage, and no one in the office has stopped laughing since.
Q: Tell me a little bit about yourself.
A: When I'm not at work, I spend most of my time with my wife and two awesome (crazy) daughters (monsters). I also sneak in as many sci-fi/fantasy video games, movies, and TV shows as possible. Additional loves include the Minnesota North Shore and Nicolas Cage.
Q: What was your favorite thing about school as a kid?
A: In elementary school, my favorite thing was the Book Fair. For a kid like me who loved books, it was like Christmas (with free Darth Vader posters)! In high school, my favorite thing was journalism class. I was one of the kids in charge of putting together the school newspaper and yearbook, and that was really fun for me.
Q: What do you do at Black Rabbit Books?
A: I help design and put together the pages in each book, everything down to the fonts and imagery. Sometimes I contribute illustrations as well, which is always exciting.
Q: What inspires you to make children's books?
A: My love to create and my love of books. I remember the joy of getting lost in a book when I was young, and I see that same joy now in my own kids. There's nothing better than inspiring and expanding the imaginations of the next generation!
