Behind the Scenes with Editor Marysa Storm

Black Rabbit Bolt Books

We thought it might be fun to let you peek behind the curtain and see who makes the awesome books here at Black Rabbit. To start off this Behind the Scenes series, please meet editor Marysa Storm. Marysa started at Black Rabbit in July 2016. She's responsible for editing, leveling, and fact-checking manuscripts for our Bolt and Hi Jinx books. She also brings a perfectly dry sense of humor to the team, which totally comes out when she's asked to talk about herself. See her interview below. :)

Q: Tell me a little bit about yourself.
A: I'm a mild-mannered editor by day and an amateur seamstress by night.

Q: What was your favorite thing about school as a kid?
A: My favorite thing about school was probably getting to see my friends. I grew up out of town and without a neighborhood full of kids to play with, so it was a pretty big deal.

Q: What do you do at Black Rabbit Books?
A: I fact-check, write, and edit amazing books!

Q: What inspires you to make children's books?
A: What inspires me to make children's books is the same thing that gets me out of bed in the morning—the opportunity to scar (educate) children. From books about bog mummies to anacondas and great white sharks, we churn out a lot of potential nightmare material here at Black Rabbit Books. It's fun.
